June 15th 2007 - the junior playground becomes a swimming pool
June 15th
There are no pictures of the school on the day of the flood - everyone was too busy - this is the morning after! June 26th
Bark chippings had travelled from one side of the school to the other.
June 26th
Many items floated away in the water - the plant was standing up when the school was evacuated.
The morning after - puddles throughout the school - all that was left of between 10 and 30cm of water.
Puddles everywhere!
Standing water around the school.
Wet toilet areas.
The clearout begins as sodden carpets are taken up.
The hall floor tiles are removed.
In the foundation stage area, the wall boarding and flooring was removed.
The school is stripped to a shell.
The school becomes a building site.
The hall becomes a workshop.
Every area was affected by the flooding.
The ICT suite is stripped out.
New materials start to arrive.
In some places walling has to be removed and replaced.
The staffroom!
The corridors are cleared and new concrete is laid on the floors once they are dry enough.
The climbing frame has to be removed.
Salvaged materials are stored throughout the school in any available areas.
More salvaged equipment.
Dr Bennett's summer office!
Repairs really get started.
Repairs to toilets and cloakrooms.
The LRC corridor.
Every door in the school had to be replaced.
The temporary classrooms arrive.
They are big!
Coming down Welbourn Walk.
Our poor plants!
Installing the temporary classrooms on the junior playground.
Three out of four.
The final classroom.
Inside the temporary rooms - before the staff made them look really good.
The Acre Heads camp site.
Replacement furniture starts to arrive - once there are floors to put it on.
The reception area is refurnished.
Just before the children come back - an outdoor workshop.
It is a race against time to get the areas ready for the children.
Carpet laying.
Getting the junior cloakrooms decorated.
Completing adjustments to doors.
Once the carpet is down it starts to look more like a proper classroom.
The children back in the same classroom at the start of September - on temporary tables!
We only needed the temporary buildings for about a month - all the school's classrooms were open and in use before half term.
Taking the temporary buildings away.
Up it goes!
Off it goes.
Another on its way!
Nearly there.
Leaving the site.
The last classroom leaves the school.
The playground is back again!
Some things did well out of the flood water!
The new children having a splashing time outside their newly redecorated and refurbished classroom.
